Does your skin react when you wear watches with metal backs, or when you come in contact buttons on jeans or belt-buckles, artificial jewelry? If yes, then you are sensitive to metal.
Body Piercing comes with common problems, one of which is Metal Hypersensitivity. Many people are sensitive to nickel and other metals, hence the use of Hypoallergenic metals is being used lately. Hypoallergenic metals are better than other forms because they put less strain on the immune system trying to heal the piercing, which increases the chances of the piercing healing well.
When you go for body piercing, make sure you ask your piercer about Metal Hypersensitivity. Make sure you inform your piercer before hand if you have ever experienced skin irritation on prolonged contact with a metal. This would give the piercer an idea that you are at least sensitive to some baser metals.
If you have enough budget you can always opt for silver, gold or platinum instead of steel. But if you are looking for an economical piercing, you can always ask your piercer to use jewelry made up of nickel-free’ surgical steel containing less than 0.01% nickel and is graded 316L.
