Piercing Problems – Infections

Posted on July 18, 2007 in Latest News

Body piercings always have risk of infections. When the piercing is fresh, it is susceptible to the invasion of microorganisms like fungi and bacteria. They’ll be just waiting for a way to enter your body and when they get a chance to enter your body, your body gears up to fight them. The body immediately sends the white blood ‘police’ cells at the site of infection and they surround the ‘terrorist’ microorganisms from proceeding any further in the body.

You may end up with swelling and redness in the process and the piercing will be sore to the touch. There might also be a thick discharge of gray, brown, or green puss that will ooze out from the site of piercing. Make sure the infection is checked early on and cleaned to avoid attracting other ‘terrorist’ microorganisms too. If your infection goes unchecked then you’ll have to take the help of the Anti Biotic force to get rid of the microorganisms completely.

During the infection, remember not to remove your jewelry. Let it stay where it is the infection will heal in a few days. If you remove your jewelry this can trap the infection inside body and from there it can travel further inside the body, infecting important organs and tissue on its way. Often, when women get infections on the site of their Nipple piercings, they tend to get rid of the jewelry to get rid of the pain. The don’t realize that infections in a female nipple piercing travel into the mammary glands causing mastitis; which often makes the breast red, hot, painful, swollen and shiny with pus oozing out of the Nipple.

So when you are supposed to get your piercing done, make sure the piercer maintains hygiene and care while piercing. As soon as he is done, he should clean your piercing site with a good anti-septic lotion to avoid infections. But be careful not to over do your cleaning business as this might impair the healing process of the body, or worse damage the tissue that is trying to heal the piercing.

I had my nipples pierced a month ago and have had no unexpected symptoms, except, now that they are almost completely healed, they do ooze a white pus, especially if I squeeze them. There is NO pain what-so-ever. The white pus is decreasing, so I believe I am still healing, but I want to know what this is. Any ideas?

Hey Lisa, if there is an infection, that did not heal after your home remedies, you should contact your Piercer and seek his opinion. Else visit a doctor before the problem aggravates.
