Nose Piercing is one the oldest forms of piercing that got a relatively late popularity in the West. For Asian women it is a cult-like tradition.
Indian women regard Nose jewelry as a symbol virginity. Seems
interesting isn’t it? Its just not a matter of beauty and fashion for them. Girls young as 5 year old get their noses pierced so that they could wear nose jewelry when they get married. The bridegroom removes the nose jewelry at their wedding night symbolizing the end of woman’s virginity.
They also believe that nose piercing decreases pain of menstruation and eases the child birth. Unfortunately they don’t really have much evidence to prove their belief.
Asian women have very interesting styles of nose jewelry. A stud and a small ring is most common there. The brides have very elaborate ones made in gold. The ring is relatively a few inches large in diameter that is attached to chain. This chain gets hooked at the hair in order to share the weight of the gold nose ring.
Check out these pictures of Indian brides wearing elaborate nose rings. As a form of jewelry they are quite interesting to look at. If you are game enough for such elaborate jewelry you could end up creating a good fashion statement out there. Its up to you as to how you would prefer to accessorize yourself with it.

I’ve been doing some research on nose peircings and I have found lots of information on Indian traditional piercings, but what about nose piercings in the traditions of Muslims and Old Testament Jews? I would really appreciate some information on the topic.
