In recent years piercing has gone one step ahead from regular piercing of ears and nose to piercing done in nipples, navels and genitals. Numerous cases of infections and skin irritation have been witnessed in couple of years due to piercing in intimate parts.
The Carlow University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania conducted research and the results and analysis found where overwhelming. It was observed that almost 2/3 people developed problems due to body piercing. The cases were worsened in most of the cases due to ignorance and negligence, as right medical help was not taken at correct time. The main reason given of not visiting medical help is because people do not want to remove the piercing from their body.
This research was conducted with a completed feedback form that contained information about their background, profession, reasons of piercing and if any complications that arose from it. The bulk opined that even though with the complications they were happy with the piercing and wanted to continue with it. The majority of it was influenced with celebrity and friends. The most common problems observed in it were irritation, infection and sensitivity at the place.
Among the oral piercing the threat of chipped teeth and diminishing gum line cannot be evaded. Under extreme cases the tongue infection can spread to the brain and also can lead to oral cancer. For safe piercing a new needle should be used and proper hygiene has to be maintained.
