One very common problem faced with body piercing is scarring of the skin. This scarring occurs at the tunnel of the piercing.  It is called the keloid scarring which is permanent.

It may be sore initially but will heal gradually. A piercing that is worn for many years tends to leave a scar, even when its removed.

People with darker skin are more susceptible to scarring than the fair skinned. The reason Keloids form is due to lack of blood supply.

These keloids look like swollen purple or a red blob on the skin.

Treatment

Though one cannot completely cure off the scarring, one can definitely heal the swelling by soaking the area in hot water or by dabbing cotton soaked in hot water on the area.

Also there are several herbal oils like tea-tree oil, Germ seed oil and virgin oil that helps treat scarring. Also applying salt solutions n the area helps heal the swelling caused by the scarring.

Scarring may occur on the tongue too. In such cases regular mouth rinses, which involve saline solution greatly, helps.

If the scarred area causes you pain consult your doctor immediately.

Avoid pulling the piercing or playing with it when it is still healing, this may hamper the healing process.

Keep these in mind before you get your piercing done.
