The type of jewelry you choose for your piercing is very important. Not all skin types can accommodate every type of metallic jewelry. Some skin types develop allergy against certain jewelry types.
Therefore, one should be very careful. A list of jewelry that one can use or avoid is as follows.
Implant Grade Stainless Steel: Stainless Steel is said to be the most appropriate form of jewelry that can be used when getting a piercing done. The American Society of Testing and Materials have certified it and there are hardly any cases of allergic reactions reported with the use of Stainless Steel jewelry. The safest metal, stainless steel can be used by one and all.
Silver: Silver jewelry is not a great option because there are chances of silver causing an allergy on the skin. The silver coating tends to rub off and deposits in the skin, causing the skin around the piercing to permanently darken. Silver jewelry that is sterilized can be worn either in the genital area or the mouth. It should be worn in places where the skin is moist.
Gold: Go in for an 18-karat gold jewelry in case of a fresh piercing. In case of a healed piercing go in for a 14-karat gold jewelry. Gold plated jewelry on the other hand is not a suitable choice, as it tends to chip off with the slightest body contact.
Titanium: This metal has several tiny pores or holes, which tend to get attached to the skin. This problem however, can be solved of the metal is polished well.
Nylon Piercing: People who are extremely sensitive to metal can resort to nylon piercing.
Keep the above mentioned points in mind before you buy jewelry that you can use for piercing.
