In case of an infected piercing here are some tips that you need to keep in mind.
The infection may have occurred due to attack of bacteria on the piercing area. Therefore, make sure you wash your hands when you touch the infected area.
Consult your dermatologist and take in some antibiotics.
Drain out the pus and dead tissue from the infected area with a professional’s help.
Make sure you are using sterilized devices to drain out dead tissues.
Heat promotes quick healing; therefore using warm compresses on the pierced area will promote quick healing.
Rinse the area with saline solution twice a day.
If there is too much damage, the pierced jewelry has to be removed.
In case of cartilage piercing, healing takes a long time to happen. Cartilage has no blood supply and depends on nearby tissues for nutrients. Therefore infection of cartilage may lead to permanent damage of ear. Therefore one has to be very careful. This holds true even for nasal cartilage.
As the area is infected, take extreme precautions. Bed sheets and pillow covers and all clothe items, which come in regular contact with the pierced area, should be changed everyday.
If your ear piercing is infected be very careful when you comb, put on clothes or brush against someone.
