Piercing in infants is always a danger. Their skin is very delicate and there is always a chance of the infant developing an infection.
The baby may accidentally pull the piercing or scratch it. Also, they may grab the jewelry with hands, which would have been kept in their mouths, or other things, which is very unhygienic and may lead to an infection.
Also there is evidence that proves that infants are more prone to allergic reactions.
There is a risk of children developing metal allergies if they get a piercing done at a very young age.
It is therefore important that in cultures where piercing of the ear lobe is a must, parents wait for the right time when the children are mature enough to deal and handle the after care precautions when a piercing is done.
More than cultural obligations it is the child’s health that is of utmost importance. So don’t hurry into things instead persevere and go in accordance to what is right for the child.
