People with a piercing have to be extra careful during snowy winters where they have every risk of suffering from Frost Bite.
Frostbite is a condition wherein a part of the body gets frozen due to extreme cold. It occurs at the extremities i.e. hands, legs, ears and nose. Parts that are often exposed are most subjected to frostbites. The presence of a metal jewelry may hasten frostbite, as it tends to transmit the cold in the skin around the piercing.
The skin around the piercing tends to go numb and turns a pale white. Initially there is a stinging sensation, which stops as the blood supply ceases to the particular area.
In winter, to deal with this condition the following steps should be employed.
1) Cover your whole body, especially the piercing.
2) It is always best to remove the jewelry during winter.
3) Apply hot compresses around the frostbites.
4) Soak yourself in warm water.
Prevention is always better than cure, so always take the necessary care.
