Since it is a surface piercing one needs to be careful, that the piercing is not exposed to lot of dirt and grime. Regular cleaning of the piercing is a must. Cleaning the piercing regularly with a saline solution is very important.

Also regularly applying an anti-bacterial cream helps prevent infection. One should be careful while putting on clothes as the piercing tends to get stuck in the clothing.
