Infections, bleeding, allergic reactions, scarring, etc. are some of the common risks associated to body piercing. Some areas like belly button or nipples are more prone to infections due to the irritation caused by the tight fitting clothes. In case you are getting your navel pierced then it is important that you take proper aftercare.
Once your belly button piercing is healed you need to follow a regular cleaning process so as to reduce the risk of infection. Besides cleaning belly piercing you also need to clean the jewelry. Listed below are few important tips for cleaning your belly button piercing:
- To ensure that your navel piercing is completely healed, cleaning belly piercing is the most important step. Proper cleaning of the pierced site and the jewelry should be done carefully especially when it is still healing.
- Avoid cleaning belly button piercing on the same day of the piercing. Leave the piercing as it is for few days, this would be helpful in healing the piercing.
- After around a week you might observe crust formation near the pierced site. You don’t need to worry as it completely normal. But it case the crust contains pus, blood or it painful then you might be having an infection. Apply an anti-biotic cream on it; in case it does not heal in few days then see your doctor.
- For cleaning your belly piercing it is advisable to use anti-bacterial soap. Gently apply the anti-bacterial soap on the area and allow it to stand for few moments. Then rinse it thoroughly with water.
- To enhance the healing process and to avoid the infection, you can go for seasalt soaks. To prepare seasalt soak you need to mix ½ tsp of sea salt in a cup of warm water. Now place the cup on the piercing and keep it for 10-15 minutes. Then clean the piercing with cotton swab.
- After shower, make sure that you clean belly piercing gently and carefully with the help of cotton swabs. It is advisable to avoid sliding or rotating the piercing.
- Make sure that after workouts, exercise or any work resulting in heavy sweating, you should clean your piercing. With the help of lukewarm soapy water wash it and then rinse it thoroughly with clean water.
- Lastly to enhance the healing process, take lot of vitamin C supplement. It is advisable to drink lots of orange juice. Vitamin C plays an important role in healing wounds.

i just got mine done yesterday, and the guy gave me quite the instructions, u cannot remove or change ur piercing till 2-3 months,
as that will take as long for it to heal, everyone is different so it could take longer, or maybe not even that. and NEVER use rubbing alcohol or proxcide, and u must clean it 2-3 times aday, but NOT the day u got it pierced.
