Tongue piercing is not at all painful. It is because tongue is a muscle with striations, needle slips through it just like a needle slips through a fabric. But tongue can swell after wards. The most unusual part of tongue piercing is that you have to wear a long barbell for first 10 days. It could create problems.
Tongue piercing is a challenging task as you will not be able to eat properly, talk properly for several days. Once you have it done you will have to take good care of it too. You will have keep your jewelry cleans, use diluted mouth freshener daily, and avoid solid food for at least 10 days. So, it requires lot of efforts to get your tongue pierced.
How To Take Care Of Tongue Piercing:
Some points which you must follow to take care of tongue piercing:
- Use some anti –bacterial/anti-inflammatory lozenge until you have small barbell inserted. Barbell perform two functions, first one is that it is antibacterial, so it prevents bacterial function; secondly, they are anti- inflammatory, so they help relieve swelling and promote healing.
- Make sure you rinse your mouth with a disinfectant such as Listerine, after eating any food for at least 14 days. You must dilute your mouth freshener by adding ¼ of water to it before using; undiluted mouth freshener reduces the mouth’s natural enzymes and peptides which help healing.
- Never attempt to change for shorter stem before a period of 10 days; if you do so your tongue will swell all over again.
- Remove plague from the jewelry regularly, very gently with the help of soft toothbrush.
- Be careful while you first start eating solid food. Make sure you make your food leveled while chewing; your jewelry should not knock your tooth.
Some of the points if you must not do once you have pierced your tongue:
- Do not talk too much when you have long barbell inserted just after piercing.
- Avoid having hot temperature drinks such as tea, coffee, soup; these may be painful on the pierced part.
- Do not put any dirty thing on pierced part such as fingernail etc.
- Avoid oral sex for at least 1-14 days after getting pierced.
- Do not remove or replace the jewelry for at least 10 days when tongue is healing.
