Baby Ear Piercing:

Baby ear piercing is a very tough and painful task, It is more hurting to a mother than her baby.

Most of the parents like to see their babies getting pierced as early as possible. But the American academy of Pediatrics suggests to wait, until the baby is matured enough to fight the infection that can cause after piercing.

Ear piercing is a cultural and traditional event practised largely in India. In some parts of the country, the ear piercing ceremony is done on the 12th 0r 13th day of the baby’s birth. While some wait for three – four months.

Doctors suggest the parents to hold on to the event, until the baby is vaccinated with tetanus for two times. By the time the baby will be old enough to bare the pain and can handle any kind of irritation.

Steps to follow before piercing:

Make sure your baby is physically fit to get the ears pierced
A dose of ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be given before the procedure
Do not use gold or studs that contain nickel in it. Use pure gold
Give her a toy to play with, during the procedure, this will help distract her concentration on piercing
Check if the guns and studs are well sterilised

Steps to follow after piercing:

Do not pull the baby’s clothes over the head, it hurts and irritates the ears.
Do not remove the ear rings for a long time, as it covers the unfilled gap
Be very careful while bathing and changing your baby.
Do not let the baby to touch the ears very often.
Make sure your baby’s bed is clean all the time
Avoid heavy metals, as it may increase the chances of getting infected.
