Body piercing is a form of body modification, a practice of cutting or puncturing a part of the human body, creating an opening in which jewelry may be worn. The word piercing refers to an opening in the body created by piercing the body. This form of act or practice is popular among both men and women since ancient times throughout the world.

Many areas in the body are used for piercing. Some people may develop some problems and a few may not. The most common piercing sites are ears. It involves piercing the earlobes and cartilage.

Other areas that are pierced include tongue, mouth, eyebrow, nose, genital area and navel area. Each piercing area has its own recovery time and its own set of problems. Some simple home treatments can help in healing the problems. The body piercing area swells slightly and may sometimes bleed.
