Extreme Body Piercing

Body piercing relates to the procedure of creating a perforation in one’s body to enable a person to wear jewelry. It has existed, in one former other spanning over a period of over thousands of years.

A large number of people indulge in body modification that are extreme in nature leading many to wonder about their real objective. There has been speculation whether the practice is undertaken with the purpose of looking different or to go against the trend. The reality is that many people use it for different purposes based on their requirements. Piercing is no longer considered as repulsive practices and has been accepted by society into the mainstream. Extreme piercing is done with the intention of making one’s appearance unique and a cut above the rest. Many consider it as a conscious effort to enhance one’s personality. Body modifications that are extreme in nature entail tongue splitting and piercing that are similar in nature.

Body piercing has been an integral part of many civilizations mainly for artistic and sexual purposes, though there is a prevailing perception that at times one can get attached to one’s piercing emotionally. and in some cultures piercing is seen as part of religious and cultural customs.

Extreme piercing include perforation performed right though the mandible, at the place where the tongue is located. Persons possessing such piercing will appear to you with a metal ball appended to the jaw, nearly an inch or two inches in the back of the chin. In the interior of the mouth, one more ball will be evident on the base of the mouth, below the tongue.

In terms of medical advice this not a much preferred piercing. It is highly vulnerable to infection and once infection sets in it is very tough to get it healed. Any infection carries with it the threat of creating a great deal of problem for you since it is located close to a lymph node, a salivary duct and at least two larger blood vessels thereby facilitating its spread.

A piercing of a similar nature is the vertical lowbret, but this is located on the outer part of the jaw: between the jaw and the lower lip.

Another extreme form of piercing is done with the help of a long curved barbell under the collarbone, with exit perforations on both sides. Guided by compulsions of anatomy the piercing are done in the center of each clavicle This is possibly a piercing of the most deepest nature that is currently performed, and quite probably the most risky, since it presents a danger for greater contamination of the body.

A piercing situated beneath the clavicle or collarbone is generally performed in pairs. The piercing is positioned in such a way that it moves at the back of the slot of the subclavius muscle, between the trapezius and sternocleidomastoideus muscles.
