So I did it not the monroe Per say mine is on the other side so it is the Madonna or crawfors oh technicalities. Anyways I absoloutley love it. I have read websites about pain and people taking them because of it. I have had no pain, not even during the piercing. The most irritation I have had is the swelling, only because it makes it a little bit difficult to clean and the pinkness from the swelling. I hate discoloration, throws of my perfect skin

I got my Monroe anout 9 days ago and the swelling has gone done but it is still red… anyone know how long it stay red for? Not as red as before but I thought the redness would be gone by now…

I had my Monroe done October 2007. It was a bit painful, BUT not as painful as my nose ring. It didn’t heal very well, i guess it was the place that was pierced because on the first day the jewelry was too long that it kept hooking behind my teeth and every time i opened my mouth my teeth would tug at it! After about a week I noticed that my skin on the inside of my mouth was healing over my flat end inside my mouth! So at the end I had to take it out! But i am planning to get it pierced again. This time I’m going to make sure that it is high enough so that the jewel won’t get hooked on my teeth anymore.

I just got my monroe done a few days ago and the swelling is making the ball on the barbell kind of sink into the peircing… Is that normal or do I need to go get a longer barbell put in??

I recently got my monroe done two days ago and I definetly recommend getting it. It’s very unique and pretty. My lip has been swollen of course, but not that bad. It’s pretty tender and sore especially when I first wake up. I’m hoping I’m doing enough to keep it from infection. I do smoke so I use mouthwash after I smoke each time. This is definetly the best information I’ve read on it.

i have a monroe or madonna- cuz its on the left side not the right. and
I’ve been using listerine, and the piercer told me too, I think its been doing okay, i got it done only a week ago and i’ve had a lot of redness and crust, but i read thats normal.

I got mine done a week ago, and LOVE it I couldn’t feel a thing when i got it done…. The only question I had was about the crust forming around it… I didn’t know if it was part of the healing process… Because of this website i know that it is normal for the crust to form. Thanx so much!!!!!

My main concern about the Monroe is what it looks like when you take it out and what the scar will eventually look like because I know I won’t have mine forever. Maybe just until the end of college! Has anybody here had any experience with either of those situations? And I know all about retainers and I don’t buy that it will look as subtle as people have been trying to tell me.

How do you know if your monroe piercing is healing versus getting infected? After a week mine is still swollen, red, and having small traces of puss. I don’t want to have to take it out, but I also don’t wish to have an infection on my hands. I wash it all the time with anti-bacterial soap, salt water, anti-bacteria ointment, and mouth wash. Despite my efforts I still have poor symptoms. What now?

I am considering a monroe piercing. I had my belly button pierced a year ago and I didn’t think it hurt at all. Does the monroe hurt less or more compared to the navel?

I just did the Monroe piercing yesterday. It was no where near as painfull as I thought. I have had my tongue done and that was way worse, plus I couldn’t eat with that one. Some things to think about are: you can not kiss anyone for at least a month (exchange of bacteria and bodily fluids are not good), no swimming pools or other forms of water that may have bacteria (spas, lakes, waterparks, etc…) And lastly, you are going to have a larger stud when you first get pierced. They use a longer/ larger stud to pierce at first because of the swelling (they don’t want you to swell over the stud). So be prepared for it not to be so “cute” for the first two weeks. After two weeks, then you may go a get a smaller one. Lastly ice ice ice. Make sure you do this piercing when you will have some free time. You will need to ice it right away and take the time to clean it. So I would advise doing it on a Friday so you at least have the weekend to relax and get used to it.

i know i did the worst thing possible.
i pierced my monroe by myself.
so… no one ever told me how to care for it.
and this helped
its been two days and theres still a little swelling.
but the pain is mostly gone.
and the swelling is residing.
and the tips to enhance the healing process helped.
because i need this thing to be healed before school starts!!

I’m planning to get my labret pierced in about a week, and i was completly clueless as to the after-care untill about a minute ago. Thanks! Now, hopefully my piercing has a better chance of not getting infected.

so i got mine done last night. it hurt a little more than a bellybutton (which i didnt feel at all) and a lot less then a nose (which hurtssss). i love the piercing, but i do not like the longer bar at all. i have senior pics soon and would like to change it before then. i keep reading different times that i can change it? when is it ok to change it, or is it just when the swelling has gone down?

I just got mine done three days ago..I look like an effn babboon..the swelling just kicked in last night, I woke up feeling like I had cotton balls in my top lip haha. Butt its a beautiful piercing, lots of cool rings you can put in it, and very little pain while piercing..I reccomend.

I want a monroe so bad. my mom is worried that if I get one, that it might scrape my teeth, though I heard you could get plastic cover up too prevent that. but really, i’m alittle scared. I havn’t gotten ANY peirings AT ALL ! like not even in the ears, so I have no experience with this at all. so i’m a smidge worried about the pain .. but ohwell, i’m doing this because I want some expression. since no one has it in my school, which pleases me. * sigh * i’m not so afraid of the pain, since I hear it doesn’t hurt if you get it done rite, i’m just scared of what it will look like.

Don’t do It!! I was 22 yrs old when I really wanted a monroe. I waited two yrs and decided to get it. Now at 31 yrs of age I wish I had never got it done. I have changed so much & it limited jobs that would allow me to wear it. Now taking it out it lookes just like a big nasty hole in my pretty face. Just remember choices you make today yo will have to live with forever.

i just got my monroe a week and two days ago it dind’t hurt, it did not swell until i had to sleep and i kept hitting it uncunsiously lol then it got swollen it lasted only for about 4-days, i still get white crusting i was kind of worried about that but its normal. It does not hurt at all anymore but its still has a while to go till it heals. I love it,

I would just like to say that I just got my monroe done like 10 min ago and it didnt hurt at all!!!! The only thing that kinda sucked was the clamp….irritating but tolerable… I was just fine . It bled a little after but it has stopped. I love it !!

i got my monroe pierced about 10 days ago, i took it our 2 days after i got it but, put it back in a day later it is still really red and is starting to hurt. i clean it three times a day and always take the crust off of it i am just worring that it is infected.

Just got my monroe done two days ago. It hasn’t swelled up or anything. It looks like it’s been there my whole life. It does hurt just a little when I smile wide but other than that it’s usually fine. I think you should wait to get the braces off first because depending on the angle of the piercing it could rub against them. I don’t know what kind of braces you have but I’m guess the back of the piercing MIGHT get stuck on the wiring. The best advice would be to just go to the place where you would have it pierced. They along with your orthodontist should be able to tell you whether it’s a good idea or not.

in the mornings it is swollen.
it crusts up.
it is red.
I had a bar that was way too small
so I went to a professional,
and got a longer bar.
my older sister pierced it for me
wit a nail.
it didnt very much hurt.
I recommend going to a professional.
I am 12 years old.

I have had my monroe for a week now. I believe it is infected. I did have swelling but it’s gone now, it has puss and redness, I have been doing oral rinses after every meal and I have been cleaning it with dial soap. Could smoking be the cause of this ?!

I just got my monroe piercing. again! I did it myself but with a earing and I tried to change it to a labret ring and it wouldnt work so i took it out and went to a pro! It hurt like half a sec. but I LOVE IT! its just that i feel like my skin is growing over the flat part on the inside of the mouth! I got my monroe done just under a week ago (a week tomorrow). I found all the information on here really reassuring. I’m sure the rate at which the piercing heals is different for everybody but I was still wondering how long (approximately) I should expect to wait before the redness and crustiness subsides? Am hoping its sooner rather than later. My piercing isn’t swollen and doesn’t really hurt anymore so I’m assuming those are both positive signs. Even though I know its normal for it to be crusty, I’m still a little anxious about it (other piercings I’ve had have healed differently – ear lobes and cartlidge). Hopefully you can shed some light for me. Otherwise I love my new piercing. I just can’t wait to change the bar and for the redness/crustiness to subside because I know it’ll look even better.

I got my Monroe pierced last Friday and it only hurt for about 3 days, and i been cleaning it exactly how your suppose to, alcohol free mouthwash, brush teeth gently around piercing and clean with anti bacterial soap, and after all that I usually take a q-tip and wet it with just water and clean around it after every wash. It is barely red, and doesn’t hurt. you should try doing what i do
mine looks perfectly fine, looks nearly healed and only had it for barely a week!

I got my monroe done today and it did not hurt at all, the only thing I didnt like was I could feel the needle go through which made my stomach turn but there was no pain. I have very little swelling and no redness at all. I do recomend you get it done when you dont have to go anywhere you have to look presentable just because it does not look so cute with the bar they have to use, I can not wait to change mine. For all of you who are undecided just go do it im sure you will love love love it.

Got it done last friday. I had my nose pierced the week before I did this one but I took my ring out. Lol, not relevant but whatever. The monroe doesn’t hurt at all, and the swelling is HARDLY noticeable, well, only I can tell cause I look at my face every day. Make sure to clean your piercing before bed and right after waking up, that’s when tons of bacteria will gather around your piercing. I also use Listerine Anticeptic mouthwash and I have a small bottle with me at all times.

Got mine done exactly a week ago. It feels fine, a little crusty which I try to take care of consistantly. My piercer told me to use Bactine on a qtip. Not only does it keep it clean but it also has a topical anesthisia(? I know spelt wrong)

I just pierced my lip (monroe style) and it worked perfectly except i got the wrong size labret (lip ring) so its now swelling really bad and the back of the earring is being swallowed by my lip lol it really hurts ive been icing it and took some ibuprofen. The ice makes it feel better until i have to get up. If your gonna do the piercing by yourself i would prefer you to do some research first. If i would have done that i would have gottin a longer labret. i just ordered a 16 gauge 11mm labret. hopefully it gets here before my lip heals over the lip ring i have in now. I have also did my nose and belly button. nose came out perfect ive had it since i was 12 but i dont wear it with the monroe piercing cause its just too much it dont look right together. well sorry for blabbing on lol hope this was useful!!

I just got my monroe about three days ago. It swollen but it’s going down. I clean it exactly how i’m supposed to. But it’s cutting in on my lip inside, like theres the hole where the bar goes in, then theres a not-so-deep circle around it that goes in. Is that bad? Or does it normally do that? I’m getting kinda worried. I don’t like that the bar is so long because it gets caught behind my teeth if i open my mouth too wide. its a good piercing though

i got my monroe over a year ago…after about 2 months i switched to the smaller bar size. The one that doesn’t stick out as much. unfortunately i got an infection while switching the ring and my lip got extremely swollen (hint:bar was not long enough to handle how swollen my lip got.)…eventually my lip basically swallowed the back of the ring (I had no idea.) and i left it like that for a while…the back side of the piercing closed and the back part of the ring was actually enclosed in my lip. it was scary….i had two options….get it surgically removed…or have the piercing lady try to push the back through the skin…she ended up just pushin it through which hurt like a bi**h. I’m just writing this to let ppl kno to make sure you clean it very very well…it’s easy to get lazy with it…bt dont…bcuz now i have this scar on my upper lip…not worth it. but i loved the piercing wen i had it.

I got my modonna piercing done recently and its healing great! I’m in the process of a bit of swelling but barely. and its discharging just a little bit of liquids. I make sure there is no food stuck in it and cleaning the outside of the piercing with saline solution (contact solution) twice a day and rising my mouth with water after i eat. Make sure you rinse it with NON alcoholic mouth wash 3 times daily so it wont irritate your piercing!
Ice pops really help!

Hey the info here really helped now I know what to expect. I just got the monroe done on friday night and its the second day I feel no pain. Of course when I got it done they had to redo the hole and I dam near fainted but it was because I was nervous and had not eatin. I recommend taking a friend if your scared..and for those who told the young lady not to get it because she has braces your wrong! I have braces even though I’m 18 and my monroe looks great I mean everynow and then there a click when it hits my braces but I love the piercing no swelling but a little tender and BURNS when I use my facial cleanser but then again its only been two days..I love it and as long as you have good cleaning habits you’ll be fine if you want it get it because procrastinating and thinking of the worst will get you no where…ps if you have braces make sure you get the piercing done professionally because one wrong move with the ring in the wrong spot you’ll be stuck lmao..luckily they moved my hole up the second time

Got mine done last Saturday and was absolutely adorable. At first I was skeptical since it looked odd because it was so long. Now I understand why it’s longer than usual. Sadly it got stuck on my bottom tooth and popped out so I had it redone today. It hurts a little and rarely hurt when I pierced it. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay classy and unique at the same time. Congrats to the useful site. ;]

I got my monroe done on the 13th and I absolutely love it. The swelling is pretty much gone already and its healing great. I also have my nose done and as long as you only have small studs in both they look fine together. Mine are on opposites sides tho cuz I think itd be too much to have them both on 1 side. But anyway, If your thinking about getting it done, do it.

i just finished reading most of these replys, and it seems the healing proccess is different for everyone. I got my monroe done a year ago and had to take it out for wrk. now, that i dont wrk there anymore i just got it again a week ago. and it looks like both times its healing completely different. its been a week and the swelling just decided to leave. it got pretty damn swollen, like damn! i was embarrassed to go anywhere. the previous time i got my monroe it swoll a lot aswell but it lasted shorter. now, the swelling lasted 6 days and its very red around the piercing. the red started about the third day and its still going its less now but still pretty red. I called my piercer and it looks like it last for about 2 more weeks maybe 1. hope this helped.

My advice to anyone getting a monroe…if the only reason you arent getting it is becuase you think it will hurt, don’t let that stop you! im the BIGGEST baby i was nervous all day and watched youtube videos and everything and when i got there i was freaking out. but honestly it was insane, it didnt hurt at all. very hard to believe i know…but it went by SO fast. and now its super cute and i LOVE it. it only has a little swelling with a tad bit discomfort but its only healing and there is nothing to worry about. im so glad i got it done.

i got my monroe done two weeks ago, and it’s healing better everyday. at first it was red and swollen, but a few days after it began to puss and get crusty, even after i cleaned it. The puss/crust only lasted for a few days. Then it was really dry and red for about four days. It’s all part of the healing process. Don’t worry if you experience the same thing, as it is just your body pushing out any bacteria and infection.
My advice to anyone thinking about getting a monroe would be:
-clean it twice a day ONLY (once in the morning, once at night)
-use cotton swabs or cotton rounds. NOT YOUR FINGERS!!!
-use the GOLD DIAL ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP! this is the best soap to use since it is antibacterial, and has no fragrance.
-apply a light moisturizer, it will get DRY and FLAKY!
-try your best not to touch or play with it during the first few weeks.
-never change your jewelry by yourself. always go to your piercer.
-rinse with mouthwash after you eat.
Also, i had tons of questions and concerns before i got mine done…so maybe this will help as well.
-it doesn’t hurt that bad! it only feels like a sting. although i got very dizzy afterwards…its just that adrenaline!
-you cannot really feel the jewelry inside your mouth. occasionally when i smile too big, it will rub on my gum, but it doesn’t hurt or cause damage.
-if you have allgergies to any kind of metal, GET A TITANIUM LABRET! if you still react to that, choose an acrylic labret, they also make silicone ones to allow for mobility, and less discomfort.
-be very careful not to get it caught on hair or clothing. this could cause the labret to rip out!
-when you slepp, you cannot feel it. i sleep on my stomach with my face in the pillow…and it never bothered my labret.
-yes, you can squirt drinks out of the hole. but i highly advise you NOT TO!

Okay, so i had my monroe done a few months ago. Love it to bits and
pieces. I THOUGHT it got infected, and even went to a doctor and she said it WAS infected. But the things your saying are telling me that it WASN’T infected. Not sure what to believe. Anyways, its an amazing piercing and i love it. I’m going to get it done agian soon!
Oh, but just to let you know, it DOES leave a noticable scar on your face. Mine is white. Everyone’s is different. It also still hurts if I push on it hard enough. Anyways, hope its something you really want! But I DO recommend getting it. =)

I’m glad I found this site. I got my monroe done 5 days ago and I’ve been noticing redness around the stud especially in the mornings, like I’ve bumped it through-out the night. Today it is very swollen and tender. I just hope it’s not getting infected. I use the mouth wash and cleanse the surface twice- if not more daily. Thanks for these tips though, I’ll have to print this out and put it on the fridge.

the first time i got a monroe almost a year ago the labret was too long and it got hooked on my tooth and the diamond got pulled into my lip and it healed over instantly. i had to go to the ER to get it pulled out :[ i just got it re-pierced 8 days ago with a shorter 16 gauge labret. im worried its too short tho because my skin is kind of growing over the flat post in my mouth. not completely but just on the sides. idk if that is due to swelling or if its a big problem. i clean it how im supposed to and take very good care of it, but i still get puss.

I got my monroe done a lil while back, I left it in for a week and it never started crusting or seeping, just swollen, come to find out, I am 1 in 100,000 that is allergic to surgical stainless steel. I had to take the stud out and replace it with the bioflex and use a gold stud. By that night it started crusting and the swellig started slowly going down. Long story short, It took my monroe 9 weeks to the day to heal. After it healed I put in a soild gold stud, I can only use gold, and have no more issues with it. So a lil advice, if your piercing is not crusting or the swelling is not going down you might be alergic to the stud.

I had my “madonna” piercing pushed through my little lip about 4 days ago. I am certainly not going to lie, it HURT. It really, really, really hurt! And I’m very tolerant with pain! There were what felt like 3 layers of muscle/tissue/skin that the needle went through and each one of them felt differently.
But, in the end it was absolutely worth the pain. It only lasted while the needle was going through it, after that I was fine.
I’ve had redness, swelling, and the back of the stud disappearing into my lip…but that’s just part of the healing process. Its starting to heal properly already, and the swelling has gone down immensly.
I recommend this piercing mostly, in terms of facial piercings. It is rather cute

Just to let everyone know that gets a Monroe done if it swells so much to where it your skin coveres it in the front or the back, your bar is too small, go to your piercer and they will change the bar for you, but don’t change it yourself before it heals because it will swell more!! I love my monroe.
I got it yesterday, and the piercer was awesome.
Her name was Lin, and she’s a older woman, which definetly made me happy because she was more experienced.
I went to a place called Expres Yourself, it’s a tattoo and piercing place in Lackawanna, New York.
I got in there, told the woman what I wanted, and I told her a monroe.
I fille out the paper, and signed the agreements and whatnot,and my mom signed it, (she was with me because I am only 14.) Then we paid, and waited for the girl ahead of me to get her industrial done.
When Lin called me up I went into the room, sat on the table, she used a clensing pad to get dirt off the exterior of my lip, and had me swish with mouthwash for a few seconds.And she marked a spot on my lip. (I didn’t need to keep getting it checked because I had a mark from where my monroe was before,and I liked the placement.) She put the clamp on,
She told me to breathe in slowly, and from outside in she passed the hollow needle through without hesitation, within seconds of sitting down I was already finished, it felt like one step because it went so fast.
In my opinion, I didn’t find this piercing painful at all.
So me and my mom left the room, I bought a pair of gauges, and we went on our way.

I got a Medusa piercing which is similar to a Monroe but in the center of the upper lip above the ‘cupid’s bow’. I’ve had it for a week and a half and I’m already able to change the stud. I only have a couple of times with minimal pain.
I do have a question, though. When I use a regular labret, it seems to be much too tight (to where the back disk almost gets swallowed whole by the skin on the inside of my lip) but the one I originally got it pierced with is now very loose to where it sticks out.
Is there a size (length, not gauge) between? When I buy jewelry, how am I supposed to know what length I’m buying since it’s never in the product description?

So i got mines 3 days ago and i think its ok! But the first night i was drinking water and i guess i suck it too hard ( idk it was outta cup too! ) but the stud went into my lipp i freaked out!! It sucked into my lip 4 times that night so that made me really parinoid the next night but it didnt suck in again yet!! Although i did accidentally hit it in the middle of the night which caused it to swell up pretty big!! But iv been reading the post and alotta people asking if it hurt! Well it didnt trust me i was super scared the whole day before i got it ( more because i didnt wanna hear the pop!!) but then i went and the lady couldnt get it in and had to repierce me like 5 times!! The clap was the thing that hurt! But not till after! Now i have a bruse from it out side my lip!! Besides thre clap shaped bruse around the stud…i love it!! ( i know your not supposed to touch it but i love to tap on it with my nail so it clicks on my teeth!!! Ahhh guilty pleasure!! Lmbo! )

I’ve had my monroe for at least 2-3 months now and it STILL hasnt really healed. its a constant bother because i cant fully smile without adjusting it first. the screw-on ball at the end of the jewelry comes off once in a while which is also a real nuisance, especially if im out in public. you, like me, probebly wont be able to help but play with it with your tongue and you’ll look like you’re makign weird faces.
this piercing looks great but if i knew it was going to be such a problem i wouldnt have gotten it done.
btw ive already lost about 5 pieces of jewelry for it b/c they keep coming out : /

hi i gt my monroe done a fw months ago bt i changed my bar nd it must nt hv been lng enough nd my lip swelled up but the bk of the piercing has dissapered thru my lip nd has travelled near de front of my lip should i go to hospital to get it removed and if so can they numb it and remove it while im awake cos im scared of been pt 2 sleep?? bt id def recomend gettin it dun it didnt hurt me at all.. thanks x

Hi i did my monroe myself and im starting to think it was a bad idea. I dont have the right type of ring for it and my parents wont let me get it done. Should i go to a tattoo shop and have someone look at it? My parents still dont know and i would like to make sure everything is okay before it gets infected and i have to tell them. thanks

heyy, i really want to get my monroe done and i FINALLY got permission from my parents to do it, this was veryy helpful and im not nervous to get it done, i have a pretty high tolerance for pain so im not worried about that part.. i just dont want my lip to start growing over the bar, like i have read in some of the following comments.. i do have a question though, when i eventually take it out will it leave a hole in my face? or will it grow over? thats my main concern i just dont want to be left with a big scar on my face hahah

So I’m hopefully getting my monroe done Friday. The only other thing I have pierced is my ears. I have an extremly low pain tolerance I cry when I have to get shots. Seriously I cry. When they take my blood…I also cry..so I was wondering if this is really going to hurt? I’m nervous.. Somebody help?

I had my Monroe done about 3 weeks ago. I’m such a wimp when it comes to pain, and I’ve wanted one for about 2 years now. Finally, I faced my fears and did it. I LOVE IT. I’m so happy with it and it really does have a quick healing time. The initial pain was just like having a cold sore or something, but I’d say there was really only 2 days of “pain”. By that I mean just discomfort or tenderness with talking or eating. I’d say after 2 weeks I didn’t have ANY pain, and most of the scabbing has already stopped. I’m pretty serious about cleaning it though. I’ve done all the aftercare recommended by the artist who pierced it. Don’t be scared to do it if you’re responsible enough to take care of it. It’s so fun!!

I pierced my monroe 7 weeks ago by myself. The piercing came out great, and i’ve had no bother with my teeth or gums. I’ve switched out my stud 2 times, and I have no problem with that since my piercing healed up very very well, it only took about two weeks and I only had one day of swelling. But now i’m wondering how long do you think I can take my stud out for with out it closing up? Because i’m a figure skater I can’t wear it for competition so I need to know. Thanks.
Also, for people who’s jewelry keeps falling out, It may be that the ball on your labret doesn’t fit your labret and you simply need to go back to your piercing parler and have them find a ball that fits correctly since they should not have put one on that didn’t fit in the first place.

I just got my monroe pierced yesterday and i ABSOLUTELY love it!
the piercer was very professional i recommend(hulla moon) to everyone!
the funny thing is that it dident even hurt bad it was so fast you dont even have time to think about the pain, and mine wasent sore i ate within 30 min of getting it done and mine hasent been swollen hardly at all.. i cant wait to go back in a week to get my cute lil diamond!
if your thinking about getting it done just do it!! you will be happy you did!:)

Hi everyone,
I had no swelling when I got it done. However, I did sleep with a bag of ice on my face and iced it a few times the next day wen I forgot it was there and hit it with my hand to scratch my face or something. If you have it done be careful with makeup. I usually use a cue tip to apply the liquid stuff.

I got my monroe piercing about 5 days ago and my piercer had me come back in and put a shorter piece if jewelry in, and now it seems that my jewelry is kind of sinking in the piercing hole is this normal or should i call my piercing studio and have the longer one put back in?

I got my monroe piercing (on the right side) about a month ago, I experienced little swelling, but not much. It was not painful, at all, considering I am deathly afraid of needles.
I am sixteen so I had to convince my mom to let me get this piercing, she actually wasn’t that against it, because the monroe looks classy.

I just got my Monroe 2 days ago and Im turning 15 which wasn’t that hard to get my mom to approve because she thought it looks way better then most. I was kind of scared at first, but when the needle went through I didn’t feel a thing i got it on the right side. So far theres a little swelling but it’s not that bad. You don’t want to eat too fast because your piercing is sort of long. But its going to bleed the first day but not much and also do not clean it with your fingers i clean it with a Qtip and also make sure who ever pierces your monroe has everything clean. All in the end the monroe is definetly worth it and people don’t think it’s trashy i’ve already gotten complements on it =) good luck if you’re thinking of getting it

i got my monroe done about a week ago. and the bar is supposed to b long i know.. but it bothered me so i just took it out and replaced it with a shorter one that fits real tight on my lip and it stings really bad and burns every time i smile or poke out my lips.. but the peircing person told me not to change it until a month.. is this bad??? will it most likely get infected cuz i took it out to soon and put in a shorter one???

i’ve had my monroe piercing for 4 days now and the bar is too long and keeps scratching my gums. i was wondering whether its safe to change the bar now that the swelling has gone down although the hole has not healed?

OMG ecstacy, no offence but bad idea to change it, a week is far too short a time frame to change the bar!!! My advice, go back to the piercer and get them to put the long bar back in…..

I just got my Monroe done 2 days ago, and I just want to say I absolutely LOVE it!! I knew I would like it, but I didn’t know I how it would look. At first I almost reconsidered one because I didn’t know if look right on me, and two cause I wasn’t sure how painful it would be. But the pain was very minimal (not to mention my piercer was super cute, so I had something to think about) in the end Im glad I got it done cause it looks amazing. As for the swelling and whatnot afterwards….it’s a little swollen but nothing too noticeable, but the back of the ring is digging into my lip and it’s a little irritating, that’s about it for pain though. This site definitely convinced me to get it done. And for anyone who’s thinking about getting there’s done… GO FOR IT! I’m sure you won’t regret it

I was thinking about getting my Monroe done because i absolutely LOVE the look of them!!
The only problem I have though is that in the future I might want to take out the piercing.
If I ended up removing the piercing with the intent for it to close up, would it? Would it leave a mark? Would it leave a hole?

Just got my monroe last tuesday and let me be honest and say
THEY DID NOT USE A CLAMP!!!!
IT HURT SO TERRIBLY BAD!!
My eye watered it was so painfull!!! Make sure they use a clamp if you get a monroe!! To those that say it didn’t hurt at all its because they squeeze your lip with the clamp to distract you from the pain of the actual needle going into your flesh (That’s why the clamp its self hurts) hence the swelling is also from the clamp!!! I had no clamp and no swelling at all!! But it was like I said horribly painfull!! I also have had my nose pierced with a piercing gun and that hurt much less I also have had my tongue pierced with no pain at all and I have 5 tattoos that were done professionally and 6 tattoos that I did myself with a needle and string and those did not hurt as bad!!!! I love my monroe now though

I am thinking about getting the piercing. I am going back to school to be a social worker and it may not be allowed in that profession. If that is the case, can the piercing be removed for a few hours a day without closing up?

im a guy and and i did my own snakebite(madonna and monroe).suggest you use 14 gauge needles and adhere to strict hygene(gloves+wipes b4 piercing).1 bought clamps b4 doing this.follow aftercare and shud be fine

nicole i suggest 14 gauge and 10mm labret for swelling.then change to smaller length when healed.hope that helps

Nicole I would suggest a 16 guage for swelling because if your swelling is severe a 14 gauge will get swallowed up into the hole and once that happens the only way to remove it would be to force it back through the hole or have it surgically removed so go with a 16 gauge better safe than sorry!

Heya I just got my Monroe/beauty spot pierced in addition to 2 nose rings on right nostral, eyebrow, labret, tongue ring, 7 earrings altogether plus a right Tragus. Think I have enough. But I love the beauty spot it’s hot as. Only prob I’m having same as everyone else still after a week Im getting red crustiness ( and it don’t look hot then) and yes I get it caught under teeth. So I just found out that I urgently have to get my wisdom teeth out in 2 weeks! Yes the whole 4 of them out, now cos I’m going under the needle I’ll have to take my piercing out. Will it heal over a few hours after 3 weeks if it healing? I really hope not
cos it’s my favourite so far!

I just had my monroe done last night. It didn’t hurt at all. I was pretty surprised because I’d heard that it hurt. I’ve had my eyebrow and nose done in the past…the nose really hurt, the eyebrow hurt somewhat. I had my tragus done in September 2009, and it hurt worse than the monroe.
It’s pretty swollen this morning, but that’s normal. No redness, though. It’s very pretty. However, the piercer didn’t use jewelry like the labret jewelry. It’s more like an eyebrow barbell…balls on both ends. It just get stuck on my teeth, so I am looking to change mine out soon.

hi my girl friend got her madonna done and the inside of her mouth has closed over the flat end of the piercing and it is extremely swollen im just wondering if u could give me some suggestions on how we can get the flat bit back through the skin so we can take it out
