Gals, it’s a fantastic idea to go for naval piercing. It makes you more sexy, attractive and different. But to make all these adjectives come true, sincerely follow the basic aftercare tips of naval piercing and enjoy new piercing. With diligent aftercare, your navel usually heals with few problems; with improper aftercare an infection is practically and surely guaranteed. So here the after care tips for navel piercing to stay free from navle piercing risks.

  • Clean your piercing twice a day. Do not cleanse your piercing more often than required, as this can cause irritation and possibly prolong your healing.
  • Always use anti-bacterial soap and lukewarm water for cleaning and use antibiotic ointment after cleaning.
  • Don’t forget to use saline solutions twice a day and never forget to ask your piercer about its application.
  • Rinse your piercing with fresh water and dry thoroughly with a clean tissue afterwards. (towels can retain bacteria and should not be used on new or fresh piercing)
  • First sock the crust formed on it and clean it carefully. If it’s not removed properly bacteria can feed on it and infect the wound.
  • Don’t turn the ring in the piercing for the first 3-4 weeks, move it very gently and only enough to remove the crusting, after that you can turn it enough for cleaning. Moving the ring constantly aggravates the wound and delays healing.
  • Do use Lavender oil as it promotes healing and lubricates the wound reducing tenderness. Apply a small amount with a cotton-wool bud after cleaning, and then move the jewellery gently so it can get into the wound.
  • Do make sure that you wash the piercing carefully after exercising or sweating a lot, as sweat acts like an acid and can cause the wound to become aggravated.
  • Do give the piercing some sunshine as it helps the body produce Vitamin D which helps promote healing. It also helps dry the wound and minimize infections.
  • Don’t use Methylated Spirits, alcohol, Hydrogen peroxid Betadine and any creams.Always follow the medication as told by your piercer.
  • Avoid wearing tight clothes and synthetic fabrics. Try to wear loose cotton clothes till the wound is healed.
  • Don’t hang chains or charms of your navel ring until the piercing is fully healed. They can get caught and tear the wound and hamper the healing process.
  • Avoid sleeping on your piercing.
  • If you are exposed to a dirty environment, clean it immediately.
  • Activities that may cause any sort of stress to the pierced area should be avoided.
  • Don’t remove or replace the jewellery during the healing period, as the hole closes up very quickly and it’s painful to reinsert the jewellery once this happens.
  • If it becomes necessary for you to remove the piercing, then the best thing to do is to go to your piercer to have it taken out.

I don’t necessarily clean it everyday because i dont want to mess up the healing process but, i do turn it to make sure it does not get stuck in one place. Sometimes i see some leakage but i guess its because its still a new peircing. 2 weeks old!

Actually using Q-Tips and stuff like that is really bad for the piercing. They have loose fibers and can get trapped in the piercing and irritate it

I PIERCED IT 3 DAYS AGO, AND PUSS COMES OUT, THE WHOLE ACTUALLY ALMOST COVERED THE TOP PART OF THE RING. IM PRETTY SURE ITS GOTTEN INFECTED. BUT I DONT WANT TO TAKE IT OUT YET. DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT ON IT TOO. SHALL I CHANGE THE RING OR JUST LET IT BE TILL IT TAKES ITS OWN TIME TO HEAL?

i had my navel peirced 5 days ago, im proud of it but im getting a little concerned as it feels a little itchy, and looks shiny and pink around the peirced area, now and then clear and also a pinky colour liquid comes.
should i go to back to my piercer to see whats wrong?

i had mine done a month ago and it is infected. I get yellowish pus coming out of both ends and its formed a dark circle around the hole of the piercing which is oainfullt o the touch. The doctor has prescribed antibiotics today and told me i have to take it out but I am not going to. My piercer did not tell me about soaking the piercing and using antibacterial soaps..she just said to use hydrogen peroxide on it. She also said i can take it out after 6wks..which is probably not the case now. My sisters had it done there and have had no problems. Should I take it out? Although i have been cleaning it, im sure i could have been more thorough.

I got mine done a month ago, and it didnt get infected or anything. You have to clean it twice a day with Dial or any antibacterial soap, be sure to wash your hands before doing this. After washing it I spray some H2OCEAN on it and let it air dry. It worked perfect for me. Oh and DONT play with it! Dont even touch it, just when you are going to wash it!

I just had my navel pierced yesterday and I’ve pretty much been following the directions I got off this site, but I’m gettn freaked out over all these horror stories I’ve been reading on the different sites cuz it seems like an infection is inevitable! I have the antibacterial dial, the saline solution, (I bought it from the place I got the piercing done at), and I have the antibiotic ointment/bacitracin. Am I missing anything? Cuz I don’t kno if I can take having an infection. I’m trying to b as careful as possible, but is there any other advice u can give?

using Q-tips is not bad for the piercings.
i got Q-tips from the dollar store, they have less cotton on them but using a dry Q-tip may leave fibers in the piercing but saturate the Q-tips in H2OCEAN, Bactine or sea salt mixed in water

Don’t follow any of these instructions that the comments are posted. Most of them are ammature people trying to hand out advice they think helps. Jess is about the only one who knows what she’s talking about. Hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, and neosporin are NOT good for your piercing. Hydrogen peroxide will tear the skin, preventing healing and causing the healing process to restart itself all over again. Alcohol is too harsh on the skin, and will cause the piercing to be dried out. Neosporin prevents oxygen from getting to it, which makes the healing process even LONGER. Just follow your instructions given by the piercing parlor.
