A nipple piercing is a type of piercing, positioned generally at the base of the nipple.
Due to its fleshy nature the nipple can pierce safely behind ample amount of skin to avert rejection. However, if the jewelry gauge is not thick enough or the piercing is not sufficiently deep, there is a danger of rejection. Allergies to metal may lead to its rejection. Complications arising out of infection or too much exposure to outside pressure can also lead to its rejection.
During nipple piercing it is advisable that proper precaution is taken to avert infection by employing a piercing expert together with adequate body piercing aftercare. Re-piercings undertaken often can also adversely affect the nipple and lead to difficulties. It is also ideal that the piercing should be properly healed ahead of breastfeeding.
There is a wide range of jewelry options obtainable for nipple piercings. Barbells with a number of ornamental ends can be straight or curved. Bead rings can be set or secured, again with several bead options and dangles obtainable. Every nipple jewelry should be no less than 14 gauges in thickness to prevent cutting into the tissues.

Risks
There are a number of risks that are associated with naval piercing. The risks involved are mentioned below.
Infection: In the absence of adequate care, infection can result in scarring and even blood poisoning.
Allergic Reaction: Some people are allergic to particular metals and only realize this during piercing and have a serious reaction to the jewelry.
Nerve Damage: If a piercing isn’t positioned cautiously, it can penetrate a nerve, detaching it and making the adjoining area devoid of any sensation
Aftercare
You must at all times make it a point to keep your hands clean prior to touching your nipple piercing. You need to do this to ensure that your hands are not the source of contamination for the area that has been pierced. The use of sterile cotton, cotton gauze or other disinfected material should be used for cleaning from the second night onwards.
Healing
For women who opt for nipple piercing, healing period runs six to twelve months. This is a crucial piercing, regarded as a deep tissue injury in technical term. The piercing heals from the external limits back towards the middle and can frequently take a great deal of time to become properly established.
